Abstract

This article analyses the evolution of Frondizismo from the 1962-63 crisis that shook the country, leading to bloody clashes between the branches of the Armed Forces, profound social commotion and the sinking of the economy into stagflation. Guido's provisional government proposed an electoral solution to overcome said crisis. This led to the formation of the National and Popular Front, a coalition that sought to integrate Peronism and whose partner was the UCRI, led by Arturo Frondizi. Ultimately, the Front withdrew from the race, facilitating the victory of Illia's presidential candidacy for the People's Radical Civic Union. This precipitated the definitive split within the UCRI between the Frondizi and Alenda factions.

Frondizi's movement reorganized, and after a period of internal tensions, the Movement for Integration and Development (MID) was founded. Its name embodied the prioritization of technocratic aspects of the program over the more traditional political narrative of those who, within that circle, came from the Radical Civic Union.
